Planting the Seeds
Of Opera’s Future.
About the Program
Not all children have access to conservatory training, but many have the talent, curiosity, and creativity to thrive if given the chance. Maestros of Tomorrow lives to open that door. Through free, 30-minute sessions of songs, stories, and imagination, we give kids ages 5–10 the joy of discovering opera for themselves. The ultimate goal is bigger than a single class, it’s about empowering a new generation to keep the art of opera alive.
About Anya
For many years, Anya’s passion for opera has guided both her life and her work, leading her to focus on it at LaGuardia High School. She cherishes its beauty and is dedicated to sharing this art form with others, believing firmly that opera has the power to enrich lives, even at an early stage.
Her inspiration came during a performance in Tuscany, where most of the audience was over 60, and children played nearby. This contrast made her realize that while older generations adore opera, younger ones are not as engaged.
Anya recognizes the importance of connecting young people to opera early on to sustain the art form. She aims to create programs and workshops that introduce children to opera, nurturing a new generation of fans and performers who will sustain and innovate this tradition.
What a Lesson Looks Like
Each Opera Adventures session lasts 30 minutes and introduces children to opera through warm-ups, real music, and storytelling.
Vocal Warm-Up
We begin with simple vocal exercises to help kids explore their voices. Humming, echoing short patterns, and sliding up and down the voice are made fun with images like birds, giants, and magical creatures.
Story and Song
Children are introduced to stories from well-known operas such as The Magic Flute by Mozart or The Barber of Seville by Rossini. Each story is paired with a short, tuneful section. For example, kids might sing the “Pa-pa-pa” duet from The Magic Flute or Figaro’s lively theme from The Barber of Seville.
Younger children learn a simple refrain.
Older children may take on more lines or even a second song.
Light gestures or character actions can be added, but always in a simple, natural way that supports the music.
Mini Performance
Each lesson ends with a group performance of the story and song. Every child takes part. The focus is joy, discovery, and creativity, not perfection.
Why It Matters
Opera Adventures is about sparking imagination, uncovering potential, and giving the next generation the power to keep opera alive. Because this is a nonprofit program, all lessons, both group and one-on-one, are completely free.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do my kids need any singing or music experience?
Nope! Opera Adventures is beginner-friendly. Kids don’t need to read music or have taken lessons, just curiosity and a love of stories.
What ages is this for?
Best for children ages 5–10. Younger kids enjoy the play and movement, while older kids have the option to learn additional songs and take on bigger roles.
How long are the sessions?
About 20-30 minutes. Long enough for a story, a song, and some movement, but short enough to keep attention spans happy.
What happens in a session?
Fun vocal warm-ups, learning a simple song, acting out a story with music, and finishing with a mini group performance. Older kids may also work on a second or slightly longer song.
What if my child is shy?
Totally fine! Kids can join in at their own pace. Many start quietly and get more involved once they feel comfortable.
Is this a class or a performance group?
It’s an exploration workshop- playful and creative, focused on sparking curiosity rather than polished performance.
Is it really free?
Yes! Opera Adventures is a nonprofit project, so all sessions, both group and one-on-one, are completely free. Families are simply encouraged to share feedback to help shape the program.
Do you also teach private lessons?
Yes! I also provide free one-on-one lessons upon email request, for children seeking more focused attention, additional songs, or a quieter learning environment.
